Fire Officer I pre-course assignments


Each student will come to class with the following Job Performance Requirements (JPRs) completed. Sample JPRs are provided to show the quality of work required for pre-course JPRs.

  • JPR 3- Direct unit members during a training evolution, given a company training evolution and training policies and procedures, so that the evolution is performed safely, efficiently, and as directed. Each student will present this JPR one on one to a proctor. The Proctor will advise the student if any changed need to be made.

  • JPR 10- Explain the purpose of each management component of the organization, given an organization chart, so that the explanation is current and accurate and clearly identifies the purpose and mission of the organization. Each student will present a Maximum 10 minute presentation to the class on JPR 10. If using electronic media please have the presentation saved on a thumb drive.

Supporting Documentation for JPRs

Students will need to bring a lap-top computer to class. Students will need to bring the following policies and procedures to class to assist with the completion of the JPR’s. If your agency does not have any policy and procedures please be prepared to explain to the proctor how the situation would get resolved in your organization.

  • JPR 1- Emergency scene policy and procedures. Any policy and procedure your organization uses for residential structure fires. You will complete this JPR using Fire Simulation Software. You will be acting in the role of the 1st due officer or as a chief officer assigned  to a structure fire. JPR will be completed in class.

  • JPR 2- Staffing policies and procedures, daily calendar, company expectations etc. JPR will be completed in class.

  • JPR 3- Training policies and procedure, presentation used for class, class roster. JPR is pre-course work, will turn in first day of class.

  • JPR 4- Personnel policies and procedures, Employee EAP information, e-mail  communications, etc. JPR will be completed in class.

  • JPR 5- This JPR will be completed after the class, you will need to email all procedures that pertain to the completed JPR.

  • JPR 6- Policy and procedures that cover the concern: careless driving complaint, fire apparatus using sirens at night, fire apparatus at the grocery store, etc. JPR will be completed in class. 

  • JPR 7- Policies and procedures that cover the concern: recruitment question, code question, permits, etc. JPR will be completed in class.

  • JPR 8- This JPR will be completed after the class, you will need to email all procedures that pertain to the completed JPR.

  • JPR 9- Policy and procedures pertaining to budget, budget spread sheets, price bid documents etc. JPR will be completed in class.

  • JPR 10- Students will present JPR 10 to the class.

  • JPR 11- This JPR will be completed after the class; you will need to email all procedures that pertain to the completed JPR.

  • JPR 12- This JPR will be completed after the class; you will need to email all procedures that pertain to the completed JPR.

  • JPR 13- Emergency scene policy and procedures that were used with JPR 1. You will complete this JPR using Fire Simulation Software. You will be acting in the role of the 1st due officer or as a chief officer assigned to a structure fire. Student will write a narrative of their IAP for the simulated fire.  JPR will be completed in class.

  • JPR 14-  Accident Policy and procedures; vehicle accidents, personal injury etc. JPR will be completed in class.

  • JPR 15- Policy and procedures for physical fitness; fit for duty, annual physical fitness requirements, pack test requirements etc. JPR will be completed in class.
